UPDATE: Dwana Pusser, Daughter Of “WALKING TALL” Legend Sheriff Buford Pusser Takes Her Own Life
It has been reported by those close to the Pusser family that Dwana Pusser Garrison died yesterday, the result of a self inflicted gun. Pusser, 57, lived a life full of tragedy and heartbreak, beginning with the death of her mother Pauline in an alleged ambush that was meant for her father. The movie series “WALKING TALL” was a story about her father, Sheriff Buford Pusser of McNairy County Tennessee. The basis of the movies was a theme of Buford cleaning up his county after becoming sheriff. He died in a car accident the very day that he had signed to play himself in the second installment of the movie series. Actor Bo Svenson took his place in the role after Buford’s death and played the sheriff in two movies and a short lived TV series.
The Pusser movies made the sheriff out to be a tough crime fighter, however, recent investigations indicate that the sheriff was himself involved in a lot of the crime that plagued his own county, possibly including accepting payoffs, murder and the death of his wife.
Each May for the past several years the small town of Adamsville Tennessee which Buford called home is the site of an annual festival held in his honor. His Daughter Dwana Pusser Garrison was the force behind the festival and keeping her father’s memory alive.
Dwana was found inside her home thursday morning with what has unofficially reported as a self inflicted gunshot. Her body has been sent to Memphis for an autopsy at this time.
Dwana is said to have suffered a number of setbacks in her life recently as she struggled with MS, hospitalizations, a recent DUI and a series of personal problems.
No funeral arrangements have been announced at this time
